The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is an adaptation of the original children's book, developed for young audiences. This production served as my first design at South Coast Repertory Theater. The design was influenced by the journey of the inanimate yet personified Edward Tulane as he travels from owner to owner through a series of events showing the true meaning of family. From being dumped into the bottom of the ocean to hopping train cars, my design supported his journey as he crossed the country on his way to find his true home.

Design
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane marked my first design at South Coast Rep as part of their Theatre for Young Audiences program. I worked alongside Director Erin McNally to tell this classic story with dynamic soundscapes putting the audience in the shoes of Edward Tulane as he travels from the bottom of the ocean to the streets of New Orleans and more. Blending themes of family, hope with a sense of whimsy while, at the same time, dealing with heavy subject matter like grief. The design was intended to add to the scope and scale of Edward's journey.

The two examples I have provided represent my favorite moments in the show. The first being when Edward is thrown off of a boat into the ocean, where he is caught in a storm and is thrown into the net of an old fisherman.
The second example is from the climax of the production where Edward is smashed to pieces and has a moment in the "afterlife" reuniting with all the people he met through his journey, he then comes back to life in a doll repair shop.
