The Moors
The Moors by Jenn Silverman is a peculiar tale of a governess who arrives at a mysterious house where every room looks exactly the same, and the child she's told to watch after, doesn't seem to exist. In a strange mix of Wuthering Heights meets the Addams Family, The Moors is a beautifully melancholic play with a dark comedic edge. The design was heavily influenced by the descent into madness that all characters fall into on the titular dark and bleak English moors. This production unfortunately only received two performances before being closed for the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic.

Design
The Moors was a fascinating challenge towards the end of my time at the University of Idaho. This design was based on mixing aspects from the Bronte sisters with the oddness of the Addams family. I wanted the soundtrack to show the progression of the relationships between characters like the hen and the hound (portrayed by Joseph Winder & Kalyssa Montoya), as well as the descent into madness by characters like Huldey (Aidan Walsh), who swears she'll be either famous or infamous (whichever comes first). One of my favorite sounds in the show follows "Huldey's Ballad", a ballad written for the show where Huldey declares she'll do anything to find fame. This was followed by rapturous applause that slowly faded into what she was actually hearing, the same rain of the roof that has been driving her mad.
